It is Sunday and today, Emily and I went on a wonderful adventure up into the hills to the Likhai waterfall. The day was another warm, sunny day and the temperature seemed to be absolutely perfect. We picked up Nichapat and Waew (the girls I work with on the Khom Loi Montessori Project) stopped at the Bandu market to pick up lunch and "headed for the hills!!"
Our drive was spectacular, with scenery that would literally take your breath away. After exiting the "Super Highway," we drove on one of Thailand's typical dirt back roads consisting of many twists and turns, hills and lots of bumps. We parked close to the Likhai school, our latest addition to the Montessori Child Care centres and trekked the rest of the way to the waterfall. The Likhai school and the waterfall are located about a thirty minute drive north of Chiang Rai.
When we reached the waterfall, we had a picnic under the trees and listened to the gurgling of the water in the stream below the waterfall. We then spent the rest of the day exploring and watching various birds and bugs. Waew even made an attempt to teach Emily how to slide down the side of a hill on a sheet of bamboo - very similar to tobogganing but not quite as cold!!!
Tomorrow is back to school and the beginning of another week of adventures................
